Why do I blog?

Because I meet folks that make great comments like this from Lawrence Berezin.  Please also follow him on Twitter at @LarryBerezin.

I don't seek out this type of feedback, but it highlights for me the wonders that I was missing when I started to blog and dive into social networking.  I do truly appreciate the time that readers take in reading Musings and can only hope that readers get the same kick out of reading the posts as I do in writing them.

Thanks again to Larry and all the others I have met on this journey.

A Good Take on Customers and Sales from a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Brian Tannebaum (@MIAMICRIMLAW on Twitter), posted a great piece on how not to win friends and influence customers to hire you, whether through Twitter or through more "Traditional" avenues.

His point is a good one.  Spend your time marketing why you should be the one to help the customer.  Don't waste time bad mouthing the competition.  Customers/clients will sense that you are not pushing your strengths and wonder why.  Stick with the positive and answer client's questions honestly and without taking pot shots at the competition and you will come out ahead.

Personal Thoughts on Twitter, etc.

I must admit, I was skeptical about Twitter at first.  Frankly, I did not see the time value in following and participating in conversations at 140 characters a shot.  I also did not really believe that I had the time or the energy to start and maintain a blog, linkedin profile, etc. to keep my name out in the Web 2.0 world. I have since realized that I can't afford not to spend the time and that a blog is the centerpoint of my marketing and interaction in this world.

Thanks to a Richmond tweep of mine @copelandcasati (aka @greenmodernkits), I dove in.  I started trying to just send up trial balloons with keywords to no avail.  It was not until I linked my blog, profiles and tweets into a conversation that things took off.  I met great folks in the legal industry like @sharishapiro and @richcartlidge (among numerous others from whom I have learned a lot), construction industry like @concretethinker and @vikduggal (see above for disclaimer because I would have to type all day to get everyone in and you know who you are), and other great folks who have allowed me to bend their ears on how to live in this crazy Web 2.0 world.

In just over 2 months of activity, I have made business and personal connections that I never would have had and am now a total convert.

Thanks to everyone who has given constructive criticism and support as I continue to fumble along.
