Brian Tannebaum (@MIAMICRIMLAW on Twitter), posted a great piece on how not to win friends and influence customers to hire you, whether through Twitter or through more "Traditional" avenues.
His point is a good one. Spend your time marketing why you should be the one to help the customer. Don't waste time bad mouthing the competition. Customers/clients will sense that you are not pushing your strengths and wonder why. Stick with the positive and answer client's questions honestly and without taking pot shots at the competition and you will come out ahead.
