This is a great video on how RSS helps a blog and what it is. Thanks to Grant Griffiths at Blog For Profit for the head's up.

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should (Day 1-31 Kick Butt) | Blog For Profit

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should (Day 1-31 Kick Butt)

stopsign4c.gif 300×424 pixels.jpgWelcome to the first day 1 of 31-Days to Kick Your Blog in the Butt. As will happen on each day of this series, I want to give you two things to take away:

  • Some teaching points
  • A task or two to take and do something with

Teaching Moment

Today’s task/homework/assignment is for you to step back for a moment and take a look at your blog. Let me explain why this is important and why I have it for our first post in the series.

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should when it comes to your blog’s design

Blogging is wonderful. It is easy to start a blog. And it is easy to add features to your blog. In fact, with WordPress there are literally 1,000’s of plugins and add-ons out there you could put on your blog. Thousands of bells and whistles you could add to your blog to give it all those wonderful functions. Thousands of things you could add to make it look, oh so wonderful. There lies the problem and why this is the first post in this series.

The beginning of a great series by Grant Griffiths and the Blog for Profit folks.

Why do I blog?

Because I meet folks that make great comments like this from Lawrence Berezin.  Please also follow him on Twitter at @LarryBerezin.

I don't seek out this type of feedback, but it highlights for me the wonders that I was missing when I started to blog and dive into social networking.  I do truly appreciate the time that readers take in reading Musings and can only hope that readers get the same kick out of reading the posts as I do in writing them.

Thanks again to Larry and all the others I have met on this journey.

Web 2.0 and the Legal Blog

As I was perusing Virginia Lawyers Weekly and checking to see what was occuring in the area of construction law in Virginia, I noticed an interesting article on Web 2.0 and blogs.  VLW does a good job with this one part of their series on the use of the web by attorneys and how blogs have grown and expanded.

In my short time experimenting with this medium, I have found it to be almost a necessity to have a blog.  I enjoy Posterous because it is quick.  My blog is for more substantive topics, but Posterous gives me a great platform for a quick thought.
